FBISD Police announce new “RAPP” program —

Resource Academy for Parents on Patrol

FORT BEND ISD--Are you interested in learning more about how you can help keep our  students safe?  If so, plan to join the first Fort Bend ISD police academy for parents called RAPP, or, Resource Academy for Parents on Patrol.

The seven-week course begins Tuesday, July 13, and runs every Tuesday night, 7:00-9:00 p.m., until August 24.  Classes will be held at the FBISD Police Department located at 13600 Murphy Rd. in Stafford, and are limited to 30 parents, first come-first served.  To enroll in RAPP, parents may pick up an application at the FBISD Police Dept. or download the application from the district website at www.fortbendisdpolice.com.  All applicants will be required to complete a criminal history background check.  Please call Sgt. George Holub or Officer Jennifer Taylor at (281) 634-5500 if you questions.

FBISD Police Chief J.L. Campbell said the new program will provide an opportunity for parents to become familiar with the functioning of the FBISD Police Department from the inside out.  “Not only are we going to show parents how our police department operates, but we will teach them how to report crimes and be a good witness in any situation.  When parents better understand the police function, more productive relationships can develop between police and community members—and that will be a real positive in making our communities safer for our students,” said Campbell.

The course will provide both classroom and field instruction on the following: narcotics investigation, witness skills, internet crimes, gangs, threat assessments, crime scenes, first aid, penal code and juvenile laws, departmental policy, radio operation, and conflict resolution. On August 3 parents will observe a demonstration by the Crisis Response Tactical Unit.

In addition to Fort Bend ISD police officers, RAPP instructors will include staff from the Sugar Land Fire Department, Department of Public Safety, FBI, Houston ISD Police Department, Sugar Land Police Department, and the Fort Bend County D.A.’s Office.

At the end of the seven-week course, a special graduation will be held on Friday, August 27. Each participant will receive a graduation certificate provided they have not missed more than 20 percent of the class. Participants who miss two classes will be excused from the academy.  After successful completion of the course, graduates will be eligible to volunteer for the district’s Parents on Patrol program at extracurricular activities.

RAPP was developed at the request of Fort Bend ISD parents who expressed a desire to help the Fort Bend ISD Police protect students attending extracurricular activities.

“We are proud of the parents of Fort Bend ISD who want get involved, and we look forward to this new venture with the community to help keep our kids safe,” Campbell said.
