Truancy Investigation Unit

The Truancy Unit of the Fort Bend ISD Police
Department is responsible for investigation and enforcement of mandatory state
attendance laws and related statutes.
- Section 25.094 FAILURE TO ATTEND SCHOOL is filed
against the student.
- Texas Education Code section 25.093 PARENT
CONTRIBUTING TO TRUANCY is filed against the parent/guardian.
These charges are filed in the appropriate Justice or Municipal Court. In accordance with state law, the criteria for filing these
charges are:
- Students from the age
of 6 years old to 18 years old are required by law to attend school.
- Student who has (3) or more (whole or
parts of school days) with unexcused voluntary absences in a 3-week period or (10) or more
(whole or parts of school days) unexcused voluntary absences in a 6-month period.
An offense under these sections are Class C
misdemeanors.
